Greentea Peng admits that although green tea is her favourite, she also likes to make a spicy ginger and turmeric one that she brews for days. Listening to the South Londoner’s music feels like a sip of this nourishing tea. Her new single ‘Mr Sun’ is a shrine to the sun, all the warmth that it gives us...and her love of all things green. Using heavy hip hop beats and broken jazz chords on guitar, her vocals are raspy and thick, spread like honey over the song. Her intonation feels inspired by the reggae artists she grew up listening to such as Finley Quaye and saxophone adds a rose-tinted glow to the song, as if heated up by the sun’s generous energy.
